"write strong women" doesn’t mean "write the same cliched archetype of a Strong Woman" it means "write female characters who have agency and aren’t relegated to the same tired roles of passivity and submissiveness"
My main problem with “consent is sexy” is that it coerces girls and women into giving consent. Just look at it reversed: “If you say no, you’re not sexy.”Enough with the sexualization of every little thing pertaining to women and girls and that includes the women’s liberation movement’s narrative and praxis.
Things that need to stop being in kid shows.
"I can’t lose to a girl"
"I can’t believe I lost to a girl"
"you let a girl beat you"
If you keep showing these types of mindsets to kids they’re going to think they should think that way as well.
Telling your son not to “be such a girl” lets his sister who overhears the conversation know that being a girl is not a good thing and she should be sorry and ashamed of herself.
It also reminds your son that being a boy is better than being a girl and therefore he is better than any girl he will ever meet.
bobs burgers is an example of how fucking funny things can be when yoU ACTUALLY UTALISE YOUR FEMALE CHARACTERS FOR COMEDY INSTEAD OF HAVING THEM STAND THERE ROLLING THEIR EYES
DO YOU SEE
sometimes i think about how portal was a game with no male characters, featuring a WOC protagonist and an excellent female antagonist who were both anything but sexualised, and yet somehow still managed to create an interesting and engaging experience for female and male gamers alike, win awards, and get a sequel, and then i look at people who say “games with female protagonists don’t sell” and i laugh. for a very long time.
